Materiality After Extraction

Strategies and narratives for future environmentally-conscious materials.

Part of Non-Extractive Architecture, a research platform and exhibition on construction and urban life in the post-fossil era.  Non Extractive Architecture collected hundreds of case studies of materials, buildings, social projects and technological platforms, exploring diverse responses to the crises of over-extraction and climate change.

My project parses and maps these materials and projects onto a broad set of trends and narratives. It asks what forms each of these ‘tendencies’, and how each of them seeks to answer the questions posed by the crises of extraction and carbon.

In the process, it explores how the approaches or putative ‘solutions’ adopted might lead to different sorts of future for design, economics, society and coexistence.
